Record setting Saturday for WNC

CHARLOTTE, NC — It was a record-setting day for Western North Carolina athletes at the 37th Annual Wendy’s Invitational as 124 (61 boys, 63 girls) individuals set new personal best times.

TC Roberson junior Brooke Gordon was the area’s best finisher, placing third in the invitational race with a time of 17:54. The Roberson girls were second to Ardrey Kell, 83 to 169 in the team scoring.

In the open race, AC Reynolds sophomore Larissa Woods took fifth in 18:58, shattering her previous personal- best time of 20:10.

Catie Byrd (North Henderson) and Tanis Baldwin (East Henderson) both had personal bests in the 3-A section. Byrd took fifth in the girls race with a time of 19:16, while Baldwin was sixth in the boys race in 16:26.
