North Buncombe’s Proffitt impressive in debut

COLUMBUS — North Buncombe’s Sage Proffitt wasted no time in her season debut at the Polk County Polar Bear #1 meet on Monday.

The senior was one of 13 athletes to qualify for the NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A indoor state meet, which will be held February 11 in Chapel Hill.

Proffitt, who is the defending indoor 3A state champion in the pole vault and 500-meter dash, captured victories in the 55 (7.4), 300 (41.9), and pole vault (11’0″). She also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 14-feet, 11-inches.

Last year’s double throws state champion, Hailey Cook won the shot put with a mark of 40’8.5″. The Hendersonville junior qualified for her third consecutive indoor state meet in the process.
