ASHEVILLE — Asheville’s Kris Lordman and North Buncombe’s Sage Proffitt are this week’s  male and female  WNCPrepTrack.com athletes of the week.

The pair of athletes become the first to receive the  inaugural weekly honors.

Lordman and Proffitt opened their 2011-2012 season campaign in style, as both had strong performances in a set of indoor meets last week.

At the Polk County meet, Lordman clocked a state qualifying time of 37 seconds flat to win the 300-meter dash, then, later in the  week followed up with another state qualifier and win in the 500 (1:08.30) at the Asheville meet.

The junior  also won the 55 in 6.5 and split 50 seconds flat — on the Cougars 1600-meter relay — that placed second in the same meet.

Proffitt picked up where she left off last year — dominating WNC competition as usual. She was victorious in three events, including the  55 (7.4), 300 (41.9) and pole vault (11’0″).

Proffitt, a senior, qualified for February’s state meet in the 300 and pole vault.

Hendersonville’s Hailey Cook and West Henderson’s Zach Bryant were also in the running for this week’s honors.
