About

WNCPrepTrack.com is a website providing coverage of high school track & field and cross country in the western part of North Carolina. This site was founded in August 2004 and has gone through several revisions to arrive at the website you’re seeing today.  The purpose of this site is to create awareness and promote track & field and cross country in Western North Carolina. WNCPrepTrack.com does not receive any grants or state funds; everything is operated out of pocket.

David Pickett – Founder, Webmaster

As the Founder and Webmaster, David manages all aspects of the website as well as the social media platforms. He has been involved in the sport of track & field for over a decade as an athlete, coach and contributor.  In 2001, while competing in Junior Olympics, David discovered DyeStat.com — the internet home for high school track and field. He quickly became fascinated with the site and began to shape into a track nut. David found himself spending countless hours on DyeStat looking at rankings, results, and posting on the message board. It was then he realized he wanted to start his own tack website. In 2004, David founded WNCPrepTrack.com. He thanks George Phillips (NCPrepTrack.com) for helping with the early stages of this site.  David brings extensive experience covering track & field and cross country events. He has  worked on the national level with both RunnerSpace and MileSplit, Inc. as a freelance videographer and writer. David has also contributed content to ESPNHS DyeStat and PreRaceJitters.com.

David is a  2010 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness. While at UNC- Asheville, he was a member of the track & field team and worked as a student assistant in the athletic communications office.  He currently is working towards a Masters in Kinesiology and Sports Studies with a concentration in Sport Management at East Tennessee State University.
